The Japan Anti-Abuse Working Group (JPAAWG) held its second annual meeting in Tokyo, Japan on November 14th and 15th, 2019. DMARC.org director Steve Jones was invited to give a general update on DMARC and related matters, and the slides from that presentation are now available for download (with notes).

The update covers a number of areas, including two new publications from the IETF: RFC8616, which updates the use of Unicode characters and Internationalized domain names with email authentication; and RFC8617, which is the long-awaited publication of the Authenticated Received Chain (ARC) protocol. Cryptographic updates, such as RFC8463, were also reviewed in light of recent announcements from Google and advancements in quantum cryptography, and the implications for DKIM and ARC.

The presentation closes with some charts and graphs reviewing DMARC adoption figures from 2018 versus 3Q2019, across the Internet as well as in key country-code top-level domains (ccTLD) in Asia and Europe.
