The IETF’s DMARC Working Group has submitted documents to update the DMARC protocol to the RFC Editor. For reference, here is a high-level overview of the changes introduced in these updates:
- Informational ⇨ Standards Track
- Public Suffix List replaced by DNS Tree Walk and Public Suffix Domains (PSD)
- Several tags deprecated: pct=, rf=, ri=
- np= tag added for non-existent subdomain policy
- psd= tag brought from RFC 9091 (obsoleted)
- Report size limit notation removed from rua=
- DMARC SPF only uses MAIL FROM:, no fallback to HELO
- More guidance about PII/NPI risks in reporting
More information is available by checking the final drafts of the documents.
